So the other day I had a conversation with a nice lad as I was checking him into the hotel.
Mr. ____ : I see you are a fellow left-hander!
Me: Haha yes sir.
Mr. ____ : You know people who are left-handed tend to me very creative!
Me: Really?
Mr. ____: Yea, being left-handed has something to do with the strength of the creative side of your brain.
Me: Hah that’s interesting sir. I’ve never really thought of myself as a very creative person, personally.
Mr. ____: Well it does not have to be limited to an artistic creativity? My daughter is left-handed as well and, well she’s a very great artist actually haha better than me and you put together and we’re both lefties as well…hahaha I guess that’s not a really good example.
I laugh with him, good times haha.
Me: Well if I am creative in some sort of way, I am not conscious of it? Or if I am inherently creative, I am subconsciously, and not actively aware of it.
Mr. _____: The creativity could be something very subtle…you might even just have a very unique way of thinking about things. You might perceive things in a different way than a right-handed person.I am no artist either, trust me, but I am a firm believer that left-handed people, such as me and you and my daughter, are unique…if not at least different.
I nod in acknowledgment. I’ve already decided. Best guest interaction so far at this hotel.
Mr. ____: The bottom line is, I encourage you to seek this creativity, and do not blindly dismiss it. Embrace it, discover yourself in it, and maybe we will all see something new. Is that a deal, Andrew?
Me: Yes it is, Mr. _____. Thank you for this tidbit…you’ve given me something to ponder on…now let’s get you outta here and let me show you to your room….
An act of kindness from a stranger can go a long way. It sets off a ripple of positive energy.
